Leading Australian Laser Surgeon embraces Allegretto technology.

Dr Peter Stewart, who is considered the ‘grandfather’ of LASIK in Australia, has rejected the Bausch & Laumb 217z 100hz in favour of the new Wavelight Allegretto system.

Being one of the pioneers of laser refractive surgery in Australia, Dr Stewart has clinics in Maroochydore and Brisbane.  He established the Lasersite group, with clinics throughout Australia and one in New Zealand – Lasersite Hamilton – and has trained many fellows in refractive surgery including New Zealanders.

Dr Ian Dallison of Laservision in Christchurch said “Peter has had the Allegretto on trial since the AUSCRS conference in October 2004, operating in parallel with his well-used B&L 217z.  After only three months he’s opted in favour of the Allegretto, commissioning one in the Brisbane clinic and ordering another for Maroochydore.”

Jose Beuchat, Manager of Coherent Lasers, Australia, says “The Wavelight Allegretto system has become the most popular LASIK platform accounting for over 40% of all new laser sales internationally in the last year, compared to the B&L 217z being estimated at less than 10%, in spite of the Allegretto costing over half as much again.”

There are a number of features, according to Dr Stewart, that make the Allegretto more user-friendly, with an increase in speed, safety and precision which translate to improved clinical results.
